The October 3rd event also commemorated the death of Rosie Jiminez, a Chicana woman who died from a self-managed abortion when she could not access funds to cover the cost of an abortion after the passage of the Hyde amendment. The event also connected to the Women's March, another national initiative taking place the same weekend. In Duluth, there was a Women's March event on Saturday, which marched to join an NAACP event, “Decriminalize Color”.
The local Mobilization for Reproductive Justice event was organized by HOTDISH Militia, which helps raise fund abortion locally in Duluth. It was also supported by UMD Advocates for Choice and local clinic escorts. The event took place in front of the WE Clinic so that it could also serve as a counter-protest to the ongoing “40 Days for Life” series of anti-abortion vigils.
